Ubuntu Linux on Quadras

Quadras is a very compact embedded PC powered by a Transmeta Crusoe CPU. It is sold by KWS Computersysteme GmbH and costs 565 Euro (+ taxes) with a 667 MHz CPU, 256 MB RAM and a hard disk.

Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog) works like a charm, no matter if you take the live cd or install it on the hard disk. There were much more problems trying to use Knoppix or Kanotix.

SD-card reader and Ubuntu Linux

I finally managed to get the built-in SD-card reader in my DELL Inspiron 6000 working and this should work for most other built-in card readers, too.

GNOME: Thumbnails for OpenOffice.org 2 files

I found a nice little how-to, if you want to display OpenOffice.org 2 files with thumbnails in Nautilus (as you know it from images and pdfs).

Wallpapoz – different wallpapers for different workspaces

Ever wanted to have different wallpapers on each GNOME workspace? I found a program called Wallpapoz (written in Python), that offers this to you.

Wallpapoz comes with a nice GTK interface and can also change the backgrounds randomly or by order. Check it out!

Ubuntu Linux on DELL Inspiron 6000

Last year I got a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 15,4″ WXGA TFT-Display (1280×800) and the Intel shared memory graphic-chip.

Installing Ubuntu 5.10 (the Breezy Badger release) on it worked like a charm. (more…)

Ubuntu Linux on Fujitsu Siemens AMILO M1437G

A friend of mine recently bought a brand new Fujitsu Siemens AMILO M1437G featuring a ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 and a 15.4″ WXGA display with a resolution of 1280×800.

After hours of trying different stuff, we finally managed to install Ubuntu 5.10 (The Breezy Badger Release).
